Nuremberg Trade Fair

Joint evening on the exhibition grounds with an exclusive concert for 12+ grand pianos and a buffet for dealers, conference participants and guests.

Bolero performance on 10 grand pianos and 1 celesta and images of an exhibition on 13 grand pianos
Hardly any work was more successful during a composer's lifetime than Maurice Ravel's Boléro. A concise rhythm in seemingly endless repetition - or, as Ravel himself put it: "No form in the true sense of the word, no development, no or almost no modulation [...]" - that is the hallmark of this extraordinary piece. Originally conceived as a ballet, Ravel's Boléro has now become an integral part of concert halls. However, not everyone was enthusiastic about the premiere in Paris in 1928. Fifteen minutes of the same rhythm and only two melodies, one of which is the twin sister of the other: that was unheard of in the truest sense of the word.
And how does this masterpiece sound when played on ten grand pianos and a celesta, spread over one floor in one of the largest trade fair buildings in Europe? This unusual experiment is intended to highlight the unique variety of sounds, expressiveness, wide tonal range and impressive precision of what is probably the most important instrument in Western musical culture. Experience students from the Nuremberg University of Music with an arrangement by composition student Pascal Hülbig.
The pictures at an exhibition also became world famous over 100 years ago thanks to Maurice Ravel's richly colored orchestrations. The ten pieces were composed by Modest Mussorgsky 50 years before Ravel's orchestral arrangement and were originally for piano. They are connected to each other by the so-called promenade, which gives the impression of a tour through the exhibition with pictures by Viktor Hartmann. Mussorgsky himself said that the promenade represented himself wandering between the exhibits to look at them. Walk with us not just from picture to picture, but from piano to piano and become part of this unique changing concert. Each scene will be heard on a different grand piano. Look forward to this multi-perspective sound experience!

At the same time, if booked with the ticket, you have the opportunity to visit the pre-opening event of the whiskey fair that is taking place at the same time.
