| Wytze Hoekstra
Wytze is an ARPT registered piano technician and past NZ Guild president. He was
born in the Netherlands and lives and works in Christchurch, New Zealand.
Since 2022, with the assistance of a number of New Zealand and Australian piano
technicians, Wytze has been exploring alternatives to the use of lead in piano keys,
notably stainless steel and tungsten. Here he presents an overview of the
weighting issues and options, and the solution that is non-corrosive, non-toxic,
environmentally friendly and allows for smaller drill holes.
